SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 164
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mobile Loaves and Fishes on its selection for a 2004
Governor's Volunteer Award in the Group Category; and
WHEREAS, The Governor's Volunteer Awards are a 21-year
tradition, honoring Texas' most dedicated community volunteers;
only 13 of these prestigious awards are given out annually; they
are currently administered by the OneStar Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Mobile Loaves and Fishes was established in 1999
by six volunteers who had a vision to feed the homeless and
working poor in the City of Austin; in its first year of
operation, the group served 10,000 meals; in 2003, Mobile Loaves
and Fishes served 90,000 people, making it the second largest
feeding program in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Today, 4,100 volunteers for the group raise money
and serve food to the poor; volunteers also provide individuals
with clothing, toiletries, prayer cards, and other supplies; and
WHEREAS, The volunteers of Mobile Loaves and Fishes
deserve recognition for their hard work and their dedication to
helping their fellow man; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Mobile
Loaves and Fishes for its commitment to community service and
extend congratulations to the organization for earning a 2004
Governor's Volunteer Award; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Mobile Loaves and Fishes as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
