SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 195
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize First Baptist Church of Midland, which on June 5 and 6, 2004, is celebrating its 50th year at its present location at 2104 West Louisiana; and WHEREAS, First Baptist Church has its roots in a congregation that originated over 115 years ago; the first church building was a small frame structure that was shared with Methodist, Presbyterian, and Christian congregations; and WHEREAS, Today, First Baptist Church has developed into the largest Christian congregation in the Permian Basin; during a typical week, over 3,000 Midland residents worship, study, and enjoy fellowship through the church's numerous programs such as the Academy of Christian Training and Support, Family Life and Counseling, and the Child Development Center; and WHEREAS, Under the wise stewardship of its previous pastors and the inspirational leadership of its current pastor, the Reverend Gary Dyer, church members have undertaken many worthy projects; in addition to ministering to people in the Permian Basin, First Baptist Church reaches thousands of people throughout the western United States through its television and radio broadcasting service; and WHEREAS, This celebration marks an important milestone in the church's enduring commitment to its holy mission to serve the spiritual needs of many Christians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and congregation of First Baptist Church of Midland on the jubilant occasion of its 50th anniversary at its present location; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
