Amend HJR 55 as follows:                                                     
	(1)  On page 2, line 2, between the semicolon and "places", 
insert the following:
	any property that is owned by a church or by a strictly 
religious society and is leased by that church or strictly 
religious society to a person for use as a school, as defined by 
Section 11.21, Tax Code, or a successor statute, for educational 
purposes;
	(2)  Strike page 2, line 26, through page 3, line 2, and 
substitute the following:
	proposition:  "The constitutional amendment to authorize the 
legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation property owned by a 
religious organization that is leased for use as a school or that is 
owned with the intent of expanding or constructing a religious 
facility.".
