SRC-JEC H.B. 816 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 816 78R5760 KEG-DBy: Woolley (Lindsay) Infrastructure Development and Security 4/22/2003 Engrossed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Houston first celebrated Transportation Week in 1953. The United States began annually celebrating National Transportation Week under President Kennedy. H.B. 816 establishes Transportation Week for Texas, with the intention of furthering opportunities available in the transportation industry and acknowledging the dedication of those working in the industry, as well as recognizing Texas' key geographic location making the state integral in the entire country's transportation network. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Subchapter E, as follows: SUBCHAPTER E. RECOGNITION WEEKS Sec. 662.151. TRANSPORTATION WEEK. Provides that the week that includes the third Friday in May is transportation Week in recognition of National Transportation Week and the contributions of the transportation industry to the State of Texas. SECTION 2. Amends the heading to Chapter 662, Government Code, to read as follows: CHAPTER 662. HOLIDAYS AND RECOGNITION DAYS, WEEKS, AND MONTHS SECTION 3. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2003.
