SRC-TJG H.B. 1087 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 1087 78R11811 KSD-FBy: Olivo (Gallegos) Intergovernmental Relations 5/21/2003 Engrossed DIGEST AND PURPOSE H.B. 1087 requires the commissioners court, in a county with a population of 150,000 or more, to provide to each commissioned deputy of the sheriff's department longevity pay in an amount not less than $5 a month for each year of service in the department, up to and including 25 years. This bill also authorizes the commissioners court, in a county with a population of 150,000 or more, to provide to each county jailer of the sheriff's department longevity pay in the amount provided to a commissioned deputy. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends the heading to Section 152.074, Local Government Code, to read as follows: Sec. 152.074. LONGEVITY PAY FOR COMMISSIONED DEPUTIES AND COUNTY JAILERS. SECTION 2. Amends Section 152.074, Local Government Code, by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsections (a-1) and (c), as follows: (a) Requires the commissioners court, in a county with a population of 150,000 or more, to provide to, rather than provide longevity pay for, each commissioned deputy of the sheriff's department longevity pay in an amount, rather than of, not less than $5 a month for each year of service in the department, up to and including 25 years. (a-1) Authorizes the commissioners court, in a county with a population of 150,000 or more, to provide to each county jailer of the sheriff's department longevity pay in the amount provided to a commissioned deputy under Subsection (a). (c) Defines "county jailer." SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 2003.
