H.B. 1836 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS

H.B. 1836
By: Hardcastle
Agriculture & Livestock
Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, the Agriculture Code has no uniform definition for "livestock,"
which is used in more than thirty chapters of the Agriculture Code.
H.B.1836 amends or repeals various provisions of the Agriculture Code to
accomplish a more uniform definition of "livestock."

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any
additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or
institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 1836 amends the Agriculture Code by providing a general definition of
"livestock," which is "cattle, horses, mules, asses, sheep, goats, and
hogs, unless otherwise defined."

The bill also amends or repeals other sections of the Agriculture Code to
acknowledge the general definition of "livestock."

EFFECTIVE DATE

September 1, 2003.
