DIGEST AND PURPOSE 

Under current law, the maximum face value of a charitable raffle prize is
$50,000.  H.B. 2056 increases the face value of a charitable raffle price
to $250,000. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to
a state officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Sections 2002.056(b) and (c), Occupations Code, as
follows: 

(b)  Prohibits the value of a prize offered or awarded at a raffle that is
purchased by an organization or for which the organization provides any
consideration from exceeding $250,000, rather than $50,000. 

 (c)  Makes conforming changes.

SECTION 2.  (a)  Effective date:  upon passage or September 1, 2003.

 (b)  Makes application of this Act prospective.
