DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Until 1995, a teacher who could not account for a textbook, could be held
financially liable for the textbook. While this provision was eliminated
in 1995, some school districts continue to hold teachers financially
accountable for textbooks lost or stolen by students. H.B. 2072 prohibits
the board of trustees of a school district from requiring an employee of
the district to pay for a textbook that is stolen, misplaced, or not
returned by a student.
