H.B. 2804 amends the Education Code to permit a school district to offer, for local credit, an internship program in which a student works with an elected local, state, or national government official. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 28.002(f), Education Code, to authorize a school district, in addition to courses in the required curriculum, to offer courses for local credit, including an internship program in which a student works with an elected local, state, or national government official. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2003. LIST OF COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS Committee Amendment No 1: Amends H.B. 2804 as follows: (1) In SECTION 1 of the bill, in proposed Section 28.002(f), Education Code, after "official" and before the period, insert: "under the supervision of a classroom teacher from the student's school."
