DIGEST AND PURPOSE 

Currently, Texas school districts may offer courses for local credit for
high school students in addition to those courses in the required
curriculum.  H.B. 2804 amends the Education Code to permit a school
district to offer, for local credit, an internship program in which a
student works with an elected local, state, or national government
official. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY     

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to
a state officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 28.002(f), Education Code, to authorize a
school district, in addition to courses in the required curriculum, to
offer courses for local credit, including an internship program in which a
student works with an elected local, state, or national government
official. 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:  upon passage or September 1, 2003.

Amends H.B. 2804 as follows:

 (1) In SECTION 1 of the bill, in proposed Section 28.002(f), Education
Code, after "official" and before the period, insert: "under the
supervision of a classroom teacher from the student's school."
