DIGEST AND PURPOSE 

The case loads for civil cases has increased in Cameron County in recent
years.  H.B. 3568 allows concurrent jurisdiction with the court at law in
Cameron County and the district court in civil cases in which the amount
in controversy exceeds $500 but does not exceed $10 million, excluding
interest. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to
a state officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 25.0332(a), Government Code, to provide that a
county court at law in Cameron County has, in addition to the jurisdiction
provided by Section 25.0003 and other law, concurrent with the county
court, the probate jurisdiction provided by general law for county courts
and concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in civil cases in
which the amount in controversy exceeds $500 but does not exceed $10
million, rather than $1 million, excluding interest. 
 
SECTION 2.  Makes application of this Act prospective.

SECTION 3.  Effective date: September 1, 2003.
