H.B. 3597 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS H.B. 3597 By: Dawson Judicial Affairs Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The County Court at Law of Matagorda County has been unused since its creation in 1995 by the 74th Legislature. County officials have determined that there is no current need for this court. H.B. 3597 abolishes the County Court at Law of Matagorda County. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. ANALYSIS H.B. 3597 amends the Government Code to abolish the County Court of Law of Matagorda County. EFFECTIVE DATE Upon passage, or, if the act does not receive the necessary vote, the Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
