DIGEST AND PURPOSE 


Currently judges and judicial officers are required to undertake eight
hours of training related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and child
abuse cases.  As proposed, S.B. 54 would require two  of the eight hours
of training regarding family and domestic violence to be dedicated
exclusively to sexual assault. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to
a state officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 22.110(b), Government Code, to require two
hours of the eight hours of training regarding family violence, sexual
assault, and child abuse provided to a judge or judicial officer be
dedicated exclusively to sexual assault. 

SECTION 2.  Makes application of this Act prospective.

SECTION 3.  Effective date:  upon passage or September 1, 2003.
