SRC-JLB, TJG S.B. 122 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 122 78R169 YDB-DBy: Lindsay Jurisprudence 2/17/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, in a county with a population of 1.5 million or more, if a prospective juror is removed from a jury panel for cause, by peremptory challenge or for any other reason, that juror is dismissed from jury service for the rest of the day. However, in smaller counties if a juror is removed from a jury panel, that juror can be rotated back into the jury pool on the same day. As proposed, S.B. 122 would allow counties with a population of 1.5 million or more to place a dismissed juror back into the jury pool that day. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Repealer: Section 62.021 (Dismissal of Juror Removed From Panel), Government Code. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2003. Makes application of this Act prospective.
