SRC-JLB, TAG S.B. 195 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 195 78R1910 SLO-DBy: Staples Jurisprudence 3/24/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, the Nacogdoches County Court at law assumes jurisdiction over family and criminal matters that should be delegated to the 145th District Court but for the district court's caseload. The county court hears more than twice the number of criminal cases than the district court hears. As proposed, S.B. 195 creates a second district court to serve Nacogdoches County. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 24C, Government Code, by adding Section 24.564, as follows: Sec. 24.564. 420TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (NACOGDOCHES COUNTY). Provides that the 420th Judicial District is composed of Nacogdoches County. SECTION 2. Provides that the 420th Judicial District is created and this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
