DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Currently, the Nacogdoches County Court at law assumes jurisdiction over
family and criminal matters that should be delegated to the 145th District
Court but for the district court's caseload. The county court hears more
than twice the number of criminal cases than the district court hears.
As proposed, S.B. 195 creates a second district court to serve Nacogdoches
County.
