SRC-MSY S.B. 250 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 250 78R2324 KEG-DBy: Barrientos State Affairs 3/3/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Under current Texas law, no month is specifically set aside as a time to honor Texas history. As proposed, S.B. 250 designates March as Texas History Month to formalize and enhance efforts to honor this state's history and celebrate its heritage. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 662D, Government Code, by adding Section 662.102 to establish March as Texas History Month in honor of those individuals and events that have shaped Texas' history. Requires Texas History Month to be regularly observed by celebrations and activities in public schools and other places to promote interest in and knowledge of Texas history. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2003.
