SRC-JLB S.B. 262 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 262 78R2301 KEG-DBy: Carona Government Organization 2/25/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently the Texas Department of Human Services is scheduled to become the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services in 2006. The Texas Department on Aging will be abolished and all of its powers, duties, functions, and activities will be transferred to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. As proposed, S.B. 262 allows the Texas Department on Aging to continue as a single state agency until September 1, 2013. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Repealer: Article 2 (Long-Term Care Services; Department of Aging and Disability Services), Chapter 1505, Acts of the 76th Legislature, Regular Session, 1999. SECTION 2. Amends Section 101.002, Human Resources Code, as follows: Sec. 101.002. SUNSET PROVISION. Provides that the sunset date for the Texas Department on Aging is September 1, 2013, rather than September 1, 2006. SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 2003.
