DIGEST AND PURPOSE

The 71st Texas Legislature created the Riding Stables Chapter (chapter) in
the Occupations Code in 1989 to promote humane treatment of and conditions
for horses used in recreational riding and carriage stables. However, the
Sunset Advisory Commission staff finds that no significant problems have
been uncovered or addressed through 13 years of inspections and
investigations of complaints. S.B. 271 repeals the Riding Stables
Chapter, ending state regulation of riding stables in Texas.
