SRC-AMY S.B. 365 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 365 78R2719 DWS-DBy: Janek Infrastructure Development and Security 2/13/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, Texas law allows federal and state judges to keep their specialty license plates after retirement from the bench; county judges are required to surrender their specialty license plates upon retirement. As proposed, S.B. 365 extends to county judges the courtesy of retaining specialty license plates after retirement. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Sections 502.2951(a), (b), (c), and (e), Transportation Code, to require the Texas Department of Transportation to design and provide special license plates for passenger cars and light trucks owned by retired county judges, as well as serving county judges, of this state. Makes conforming changes. SECTION 2. Repealer: Section 502.2951(f), Transportation Code (providing that plate registration expires with the end of a county judge's term). SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 2003.
