DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Currently, a school district report of the audit of dropout records must
be submitted to the Texas Education Agency by April 23 of that school
year. Auditors cannot start the process until late January, the
districts' deadline for submitting the records for auditing, which is the
busiest time of the year for auditors. As proposed, S.B. 497 establishes
July 31 of the year following the school year to which the report relates
as the deadline for submission of school district report of the audit of
dropout records.
