DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Currently, certain parents, educators and stakeholders of Texas schools
support a clarification in the annual work of the superintendents of the
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Texas School for
the Deaf (superintendents). As proposed, S.B. 547 deletes the reference
to the 230 days of annual service for the superintendents, thus
recognizing that the superintendents maintain the same annual work
schedule as all state employees. The addition of the word "annual"
clarifies that the salary is calculated on an annual, rather than a
230-day, basis.
