S.B. 704
By: Jackson/Taylor
Urban Affairs
   Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, the occupancy of a correctional facility operated by a city or
county cannot exceed more than 2,000 inmates, on a daily basis. Galveston
County and the city of Galveston are combining their inmates under one
facility until the constructing a new jail house for all their detainees
is built, and will exceed the cap of 2,000 inmates. S.B. 704 increases
the maximum inmate population of a correctional facility operated by a
city or a county.
