SRC-MSY S.B. 833 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 833 78R5918 DAK-DBy: Williams State Affairs 3/17/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Under the Charitable Immunity and Liability Act, certain charitable organizations and their employees and volunteers are protected from liability for grievances arising from actions related to the charitable organization's work. As proposed, S.B. 833 would extend this immunity to alumni associations and related on-campus organizations. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 84.003(1), Civil Practice and Remedies Code, by deleting language excluding alumni associations and related on-campus organizations from the definition of "charitable organization." Makes a conforming change. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2003. Makes application of this Act prospective.
