SRC-TAG S.B. 841 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 841 78R2808 SMH-DBy: Whitmire Criminal Justice 3/17/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, the Private Investigators and Private Security Agencies Act (Private Security Act) enables full-time active peace officers who are employed by a municipality or the state to work off-duty employment as well as supervise and coordinate scheduling as an extra job coordinator for other municipal or state peace officers to work off-duty as guards, patrolmen, or watchmen. As proposed S.B. 841 modifies the definition of "extra job coordinator" in the Private Security Act to make it applicable to full-time employees of a political subdivision of the state. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 1702.002(7), Occupations Code, to replace "municipality" with "political subdivision of the state" in the definition of an "extra job coordinator" in reference to peace officers who work in that position. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1,2003.
