SRC-TAG S.B. 921 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 921 78R3855 EMT-DBy: Whitmire Criminal Justice 4/28/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 921 authorizes a judge to reduce or terminate the community supervision of a defendant convicted of an offense punishable as a state jail felony. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 20(b), Article 42.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, to delete language providing that this section does not apply to a defendant convicted of an offense punishable as a state jail felony. Deletes text referencing Chapter 668, Acts of the 75th Legislature, Regular Session, 1997, as a modifier to Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedure. Makes a conforming change. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2003.
