DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Currently, the cost of providing printed copies of the session laws is
approximately $200,000 for each biennium, according to the Secretary of
State's office (SOS). The Texas Legislature Online provides immediate and
free access to all bills enacted during a given session. As proposed,
S.B. 1088 deletes various provisions in the Government Code to eliminate
the duty of SOS to exchange various publications with the United States,
other states, or foreign countries and also deletes the duty to receive,
sell and forward copies of publications from the Supreme Court reporter.
This bill also deletes the requirement that SOS publish and distribute the
General and Special Laws of Texas.
