Committee Report (Substituted)

DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Current Texas law requires the attorney general to report to the governor
biennially information involving Texas courts. The attorney general has
not produced the statutorily required report for at least thirty years
because the attorney general's office does not have access to or
jurisdiction over most of the required information. C.S.S.B. 1157 deletes
all requirements except two subsections of existing law.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to
a state officer, institution, or agency.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 402.003, Government Code, to delete
requirements relating to a report submitted by the attorney general to the
governor regarding information on Texas courts.

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2003.

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE CHANGES

Adds "reporting" as a modifier for "duties" in the relating clause of the
bill.
