SRC-VRA S.B. 1612 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1612 By: Ellis, Rodney Intergovernmental Relations 4/6/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Current law allows voters of an area annexed for limited purposes by a municipality to vote on the mayor and city council but not on any other elective municipal office. As proposed, S.B. 1612 adds to current law the right of such voters to vote on the elective office of city controller. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 43.130(a), Local Government Code, to include the elective office of controller, if applicable, relating to voting for the elective municipal office of controller in areas annexed for limited purposes by certain municipalities. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2003.
