SRC-VRA S.B. 1834 78(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1834 By: Staples Jurisprudence 4/3/2003 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Current Texas law instructs the state to pay up to $1,600 for each civil commitment proceeding. As proposed, S.B. 1834 increases the cap on state payment for a civil commitment case from $1,600 to $4,700. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 841.146(c), Health and Safety Code, to increase the cap on state payments for a civil commitment case from $1,600 to $4,700. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2003.
