A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the establishment of a geriatrics research academy at 
the Texas Tech University campus in El Paso.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Chapter 110, Education Code, is amended by 
adding Section 110.17 to read as follows:
	Sec. 110.17.  TEXAS TECH GERIATRICS EDUCATION AND TRAINING 
ACADEMY.  (a)  In this section:
		(1)  "Board" means the board of regents of the Texas 
Tech University System.
		(2)  "Academy" means the Texas Tech Geriatrics 
Education and Care Research Academy.
	(b)  The board may establish the Texas Tech Geriatrics 
Education and Care Research Academy for purposes of researching 
issues related to:
		(1)  long term care;                                                          
		(2)  geriatrics; gerontology; and                                             
	(c)  providing resources for training and research for 
professionals in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and allied health 
schools as well as training and research for persons in the care 
giver, advocacy and regulatory areas.
	(d)  The organization, control, and management of the 
Academy are vested in the board.
	SECTION 2.  The board of regents of the Texas Tech University 
System shall establish the Texas Tech Geriatrics Education and Care 
Research Academy in El Paso as added by this Act, not later than 
January 1, 2005.
