COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1 By: Staples
Amend H.B. No. 387 as follows:
(1) In SECTION 1 of the bill, in proposed Section 11.253,
Education Code, add "(k) a district may identify external
organizations to assist in the development and execution of any
program within this plan."
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to public school campus improvement plans.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 11.253, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsections (i) and (j) to read as follows:
(i) The goals and methods for violence prevention and
intervention that are included in a campus improvement plan under
Subsection (d)(8) may include ongoing, research-based teacher
development programs that focus on:
(1) developing healthy self-esteem in students; and
(2) creating a nurturing classroom environment.
(j) The program to encourage parental involvement that is
provided for by a campus improvement plan under Subsection (d)(9)
may include research-based classes and training in nurturing and
providing positive discipline to a child.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
