A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the issuance of World War II veteran license plates.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Sections 502.262(a) and (c), Transportation
Code, are amended to read as follows:
(a) The department shall issue specially designed license
plates for passenger cars and light trucks owned by persons who
served in the United States or Allied armed forces during World War
II [after December 6, 1941, and before January 1, 1947].
(c) The department shall issue license plates under this
section to a person who:
(1) applies to the department on a form prescribed by
the department;
(2) pays the fee prescribed by Section 502.161, and,
if personalized prestige license plates are issued, the fee
prescribed by Section 502.251; and
(3) submits proof that the person:
(A) served in the United States armed forces
after December 6, 1941, and before January 1, 1947,[;] and
[(B)] is an honorably discharged veteran of the
United States armed forces; or
(B) served in an Allied armed force after
September 1, 1939, and before January 1, 1947, and is an honorably
discharged veteran of the Allied armed force under which the
veteran served.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
