A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to authorizing the period for early voting by personal 
appearance to be increased.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 85.001, Election Code, is amended by 
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
	(e)  The authority ordering an election may order early 
voting by personal appearance to begin not earlier than the 31st day 
or later than the 17th day before election day. The secretary of 
state by rule shall modify related dates, deadlines, or procedures 
as necessary to implement this subsection.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
