A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to a petition for the adoption of a child.                           
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 162.002, Family Code, is amended by 
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
	(c)  A petition for the adoption of a child by more than one 
person may be filed by only one man and one woman.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003, and 
applies to a suit for the adoption of a child filed on or after that 
date.  A suit for the adoption of a child filed before the effective 
date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the 
suit was filed, and the former law is continued in effect for that 
purpose.
