A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to parental notice of supplemental presentations at public
schools.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 26, Education Code, is amended by adding
Section 26.0101 to read as follows:
Sec. 26.0101. NOTICE OF SUPPLEMENTAL PRESENTATIONS. (a) A
school district shall notify each parent of a student enrolled in
the district of any presentation or instructional program to be
presented to the student by a person not regularly employed by the
district. For purposes of this section, a substitute teacher is
considered to be regularly employed by the district.
(b) A school district shall send notice not later than the
fifth working day before the presentation or instructional program.
The notice must include:
(1) a description of the presentation or program; and
(2) the name and any professional affiliation of the
person making the presentation or providing the program.
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2003-2004
school year.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
