A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to travel services affecting public junior colleges and
school districts.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 2171.055, Government Code, is amended by
amending Subsection (b) and by adding Subsection (f) to read as
follows:
(b) An institution of higher education as defined by Section
61.003, Education Code, including a public junior college, may [is
not required to] participate in the commission's contracts for
travel agency services or other travel services [purchased from
funds other than general revenue funds or educational and general
funds as defined by Section 51.009, Education Code]. The Employees
Retirement System of Texas is not required to participate in the
commission's contracts for travel agency services or other travel
services purchased from funds other than general revenue funds.
(f) An officer or employee of a school district who is
engaged in official school district business may participate in the
commission's contract for travel services for the purpose of
obtaining reduced airline fares and reduced travel agent fees. The
commission may charge a participating school district a fee not to
exceed the costs incurred by the commission in providing services
under this subsection. The commission shall periodically review
the fees and shall adjust them as needed to ensure recovery of costs
incurred in providing services to school districts under this
subsection.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
