A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to returning a public school teacher to probationary contract status. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 21.106(a), Education Code, is amended to read as follows: (a) A school district may return [In lieu of discharging] a teacher employed under a continuing or [contract, terminating a teacher employed under a] term contract[, or not renewing a teacher's term contract, a school district may, with the written consent of the teacher, return the teacher] to probationary contract status: (1) for any consideration specified for that purpose in the teacher's employment contract with the district; or (2) on any other basis agreed to in writing by the teacher. SECTION 2. Section 21.106(b), Education Code, is repealed. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
