A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to write-in votes for the office of precinct chair.                  
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 171.0231(a), Election Code, is amended 
to read as follows:
	(a)  A [Except as provided by Subsection (f), a] write-in 
vote for the office of precinct chair may not be counted unless the 
name written in appears on the list of write-in candidates.
	SECTION 2.  Section 171.0231(f), Election Code, is repealed.                   
	SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
