A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the requirements of a petition to adopt an adult.                 
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 162.503, Family Code, is amended to read 
as follows:     
	Sec. 162.503.  REQUIREMENTS OF PETITION.  [(a)]  A petition 
to adopt an adult shall be entitled "In the Interest of __________, 
An Adult."
	[(b) If the petitioner is married, both spouses must join in 
the petition for adoption.]
	SECTION 2.  Section 162.503, Family Code, as amended by this 
Act, applies to a petition for the adoption of an adult that is 
pending in a trial court on or filed on or after the effective date 
of this Act.
	SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this 
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
