A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the Parents as Scholars pilot program under the 
Medicaid system.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  The heading to Subchapter D, Chapter 31, Human 
Resources Code, is amended to read as follows:
	SUBCHAPTER D.  PARENTS AS SCHOLARS [PILOT] PROGRAM
	SECTION 2.  Section 31.071(3), Human Resources Code, is 
amended to read as follows:
		(3)  "Program" means the Parents as Scholars [pilot] 
program established under this subchapter.
	SECTION 3.  Section 31.072, Human Resources Code, is amended 
to read as follows:
	Sec. 31.072.  PARENTS AS SCHOLARS [PILOT] PROGRAM.  The 
commission by rule shall establish a Parents as Scholars [pilot] 
program under which recipients of financial assistance 
participating in the program are allowed to fulfill applicable work 
or employment activities requirements by engaging in educational 
activities designed to result in receipt of a postsecondary degree.
	SECTION 4.  Sections 31.080 and 31.081, Human Resources 
Code, are repealed.  
	SECTION 5.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
