A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the designation of United States Highway 281 as the 
Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca Highway.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code,                    

is amended by adding Section 225.0361 to read as follows:                     
	Sec. 225.0361.  ALVAR NUÑEZ CABEZA DE VACA HIGHWAY.  (a)  The 
part of United States Highway 281 located in Texas is the Alvar 
Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca Highway.
	(b)  The department shall design and construct markers 
indicating the highway number, the designation as the Alvar Nuñez 
Cabeza de Vaca Highway, and any other appropriate information.
	(c)  The department shall erect a marker at each end of the 
highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.
	(d)  This section does not affect the designation of part of 
United States Highway 281 as the Frank M. Tejeda Memorial Highway 
under this subchapter.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
