A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the supervision of persons released from the Texas 
Department of Criminal Justice on parole or mandatory supervision.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 508, Government Code, is 
amended by adding Section 508.120 to read as follows:
	Sec. 508.120.  BONDED RELEASE;  SUPERVISION CONTRACTS.  The 
Texas Board of Criminal Justice shall enter into contracts with 
private vendors or community supervision and corrections 
departments to provide for the supervision of persons released on 
parole or mandatory supervision.  A contract under this section may 
contain a provision permitting the vendor or department supervising 
a person released on parole or mandatory supervision to require the 
person to post a release bond.  The contract may also permit the 
vendor or department to subcontract with service providers in the 
community for programmatic services.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
