H.B. No. 2072




AN ACT
relating to payment by district employees for missing textbooks or instructional technology in public schools. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 31.104, Education Code, is amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: (e) The board of trustees of a school district may not require an employee of the district to pay for a textbook or instructional technology that is stolen, misplaced, or not returned by a student. SECTION 2. Section 31.104(e), Education Code, as added by this Act, applies beginning with the 2003-2004 school year. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003. ______________________________ ______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I certify that H.B.
