A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to requiring the secretary of state to publicly post a list
of candidate names on the Internet.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Election Code, is
amended by adding Section 31.010 to read as follows:
Sec. 31.010. INTERNET SITE FOR POSTING CANDIDATE NAMES.
The secretary of state shall make the name of each candidate who is
nominated for statewide or district office in the general election
for state and county officers available to the public by posting the
name on the secretary of state's website on the Internet as soon as
practicable after it becomes available under Section 146.024,
172.122, or 181.068.
SECTION 2. Section 68.005, Election Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
(d) The secretary of state shall make the final report
available to the public by posting the report on the secretary of
state's website on the Internet.
SECTION 3. Section 172.029, Election Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (f) to read as follows:
(f) The secretary of state shall make the name of each
candidate for statewide or district office available to the public
by posting each list received on the secretary of state's website on
the Internet not later than the 12th day after the date of the
regular filing deadline for candidates' applications.
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.

Amend HB 2089 as follows:
On page 1, line 8, between "name" and "of", insert ", address,
and occupation".
On page 1, line 21, between "name" and "of", insert ",
address, and occupation".
On page 1, line 24, between "Internet" and "after", strike
"not later than the 12th day".
On page 1, line 24, between "Internet" and "after", add "as
soon as practicable".
