A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the imposition of an additional fee for the issuance or
renewal of a driver's license, personal identification card, or
commercial driver's license to support the Department of Public
Safety Historical Museum and Research Center.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 411.304(b), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(b) The account is composed of money [gifts, grants, and
donations] collected by the department from any public or private
source for the purposes of this subchapter, including:
(1) gifts, grants, and donations; and
(2) money deposited to the credit of the account under
Section 521.421(k), 521.422(d), or 522.029(j), Transportation
Code.
SECTION 2. Section 521.421, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (k) to read as follows:
(k) The department shall collect an additional fee of $1 for
the issuance or renewal of a license if the person applying for or
renewing the license chooses to pay the additional fee. On any form
the department uses to inform a person of the additional fee
collected under this subsection, the department shall use similar
language and the same size and font type used by the department to
inform a person of any other additional fee collected under this
section. The department shall remit fees collected under this
subsection to the comptroller, who shall maintain the identity of
the source of the fees. The comptroller shall deposit the fees to
the credit of the Department of Public Safety Historical Museum and
Research Center account established by Subchapter J, Chapter 411,
Government Code, as added by Chapter 463, Acts of the 77th
Legislature, Regular Session, 2001.
SECTION 3. Section 521.422, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
(d) The department shall collect an additional fee of $1 for
the issuance or renewal of a personal identification card if the
person applying for or renewing the identification card chooses to
pay the additional fee. On any form the department uses to inform a
person of the additional fee collected under this subsection, the
department shall use similar language and the same size and font
type used by the department to inform a person of any other
additional fee collected under this section. The department shall
remit fees collected under this subsection to the comptroller, who
shall maintain the identity of the source of the fees. The
comptroller shall deposit the fees to the credit of the Department
of Public Safety Historical Museum and Research Center account
established by Subchapter J, Chapter 411, Government Code, as added
by Chapter 463, Acts of the 77th Legislature, Regular Session,
2001.
SECTION 4. Section 522.029, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
(j) The department shall collect an additional fee of $1 for
the issuance or renewal of a commercial driver's license or
commercial driver learner's permit if the person applying for or
renewing the license or permit chooses to pay the additional fee.
The department shall remit fees collected under this subsection to
the comptroller, who shall maintain the identity of the source of
the fees. The comptroller shall deposit the fees to the credit of
the Department of Public Safety Historical Museum and Research
Center account established by Subchapter J, Chapter 411, Government
Code, as added by Chapter 463, Acts of the 77th Legislature, Regular
Session, 2001.
SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
