A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to allowing nonprofit corporations to offer limited cash prizes under the Charitable Raffle Enabling Act. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Sections 2002.056(a) and (b), Occupations Code, are amended to read as follows: (a) The total amount of prizes consisting of money, including cash, a check, and other cash equivalents, [A prize] offered or awarded at a raffle may not exceed $250 [be money]. (b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), the value of a prize, other than money, offered or awarded at a raffle that is purchased by the organization or for which the organization provides any consideration may not exceed $50,000. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
