A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to duties and functions of the state fire marshal. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 417.0051, Government Code, is amended to read as follows: Sec. 417.0051. FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY EDUCATION. (a) The commissioner, through the state fire marshal, shall [may] use pertinent and timely facts relating to fires to develop educational programs and disseminate materials necessary to educate the public effectively regarding methods of fire prevention and safety. (b) The commissioner, through the state fire marshal, may accept gifts, grants, and donations from any person to perform the duties as assigned by 417.0051. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
