A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the provision of fire prevention and safety education. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 417.0051, Government Code, is amended to read as follows: Sec. 417.0051. FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY EDUCATION. The commissioner, through the state fire marshal: (1) shall [, may] use pertinent and timely facts relating to fires to develop educational programs and disseminate materials necessary to educate the public effectively regarding methods of fire prevention and safety; and (2) may accept gifts, grants, and donations from any source for the purposes of this section. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
