A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the duration of a lien for the enforcement of child 
support arrearages.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 157.318(a), Family Code, is amended to 
read as follows:  
	(a)  A lien is effective until the earlier of the date:                 
		(1)  all current support and child support arrearages, 
including interest and any costs and reasonable attorney's fees, 
have been paid;
		(2)  [or] the lien is otherwise released as provided by 
this subchapter; or
		(3)  the 20th anniversary of the date the notice of lien 
is recorded.
	SECTION 2.  (a) This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.                       
	(b)  The change in law made by this Act applies to a lien for 
child support arrearages that is recorded by a county clerk before, 
on, or after the effective date of this Act.
