A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to crediting of motor vehicle registration fees by county tax assessor-collectors to county road and bridge funds. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subsection (b), Section 502.102, Transportation Code, is amended to read as follows: (b) Each Monday, a county assessor-collector shall credit to the county road and bridge fund an amount equal to the net collections made during the preceding week until the amount so credited for the calendar year equals the total of: (1) $60,000; (2) $350 for each mile of county road maintained by the county, according to the most recent information available from the department, not to exceed 500 miles; (3) an amount equal to five percent of the tax and penalties collected by the assessor-collector under Chapter 152, Tax Code, in the preceding calendar year, not to exceed the amount credited under this subdivision during calendar year 2002; and (4) an amount equal to five percent of the tax and penalties collected by the comptroller under Section 152.047, Tax Code, in the preceding calendar year, not to exceed the amount credited under this subdivision during calendar year 2002. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
