A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a statewide Food Security survey.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 531, Government Code, is
amended by adding Section 531.059 to read as follows:
Section 531.059 (a) The commission shall develop a
coordinated plan for conducting a statewide food security survey to
assess the extent of hunger at the regional or county level using
the survey measure developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
in response to 7 U.S.C. 5301, the National Nutrition Monitoring and
Related Research Act of 1990.
(b) The plan developed under Section 531.059 (a) shall
include
(1) the goals of a statewide food security;
(2) the cost of a statewide food security survey;
(3) the resources needed to conduct a statewide food
security survey;
(4) a timeline for implementing a statewide food
security survey.
(c) Not later than August 31, 2004, the commission shall
file its plan for conducting a statewide food security survey with
the governor, lieutenant governor, speaker of the house of
representatives, and the presiding officers of the standing
committees of the senate and of the house of representatives having
primary jurisdiction over the commission.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
